Big Bear Chosen As Host City For Amgen Tour of California 2012
This is the second time in three years that Big Bear has been chosen to be a host city for the tour, which draws audiences world wide. Big Bear will be a host city for the 6th stage of the race. The route in which cyclists will take to get to Big Bear has not yet been announced. Big Bear is well known within the cycling world as a mecca for road cycling because of its diverse climbs at elevation. The Big Bear Cycling Association, which emerged during the 2010 Amgen Tour of California, has since developed into a strong organization with more than 120 members. Big Bear has also become a training ground for professional cycling teams, with the New Zealand pro team Pure Black training in the Big Bear Valley earlier this year. The Tour of California is set to come to Big Bear on May 18th for the Big Bear Climb. The finish line will once again be at Snow Summit, with vendors, and a lifestyle fair, and ample room for spectators. Big Bear is honored to be selected by AEG as a host city for the stage 6 finish of the 2012 Amgen Tour of California.
